Hluboká nad Vltavou

One of the most sought chateaux in our country, the Chateau of Hluboká, is located on the northern edge of fish pond area, on steep promontory over river Vltava. Originally a kings´castle Hluboká (Frauenberg) was found along with close city of České Budějovice in 13th century by Czech king Přemysl Otakar II. The castle had a difficult progression and faced 4 total reconstructions. The house of Schwarzenberg made the last new-gothic reconstruction in 1871, they own the castle since year 1661. So an object was created, with 140 richly equipped rooms, 11 towers (the main tower is over 60 metres) and bastions, which are dominated by rugged front, big schwarzenberg symbol with family motto „NIL NISI RECTUM" (Nothing but low). Today´s appearance has been given to Hluboká by the rule of Jan Adolf II. Schwarzenberg and his wife Eleonora, who has decided to reconstruct it in royal chateau Windsdor. They also built and english-style chateau´s park. The collection of Alš´s southbohemian galleries are exhibited in the original riding hall with opened roof.
