Lipno in summer
Lipno, a valley reservoir Lipno or the dam of Lipno, is artificial water building, completed on the river Moldau in years 1952-1959. It is considered the biggest dam and the largest water area in Czech Republic (by which is sometimes called the czech sea or south-bohemian sea).
Causeway of the dam is located in the village Lipno nad Vltavou. Lipno is a significant location for recreational water sports and fishing. It is also a water collector and - source of electric power (part of the dam is a water powerplant). It is necessary to mention, that Lipno is the only Czech water reservoir able to fight the real floods (hundred and even coule of hundred-year size flood), because it has sufficient water capacity and ability to recieve much more water, than it is draining.
The dam is also sought place for summer recreational and water sports. There are many recreational facilities, camps and beaches on its shore. Lipno is the starting point for hiking in the beatiful landscape of Southern Bohemia.

The original cable car and ski-tows were replaced by three new 4-seat funiculars and moving carpets. Skiareal Lipno si composed of two typically Czech terete hills Kramolín and Slupečný vrch, with blue and red ski tracks, which are very nice to ride thanks to the noble-minded forest paths.
The main potencial of Lipno is in its non-dependence on skiing only. Directly in the ski area surroundings is very nice path for cross-country skiing (34 kilometres of revised tracks) and even ice-skating on frozen Lipno - on uniqe revised ice-skating track between Lipno nad Vltavou, Frymburk and Přední Výtoň in lenght over 10 kilmetres. Just above the Foxpark is a boblet track long more than 1 kilometre, not far from here is multi-purpose sport hall (tenis, squash, bowling) and a wellness center.
